The Veagn BBQ: Toufo Grilling Tips

Make sure your vegetarian or vegan barbecue menu includes some low-fat, high-protein, healthy and tasty tofu! Here are some quick tips to help you have the tastiest grilled tofu on the block. With these quick tofu tips, you'll be grilling like a pro!

Tofu Grilling Tips
· Tofu tends to stick to grills, so prepare your barbecue with a non-stick cooking spray or by rubbing it with oil.
· Use firm, or if possible, extra-firm tofu, and always press your tofu well before grilling.
· Marinate your tofu in your favorite marinade for at least 30 minutes before grilling. I like to marinate tofu in a zip lock bag in the refrigerator overnight.
· When marinating your tofu, even just a simple soy sauce, barbecue sauce, vinaigrette, or salad dressing will do the trick. A marinade containing a bit of sugar is best, as it will carmelize and help the tofu get nice and crispy and crunchy on the outside, so add a bit of sugar, rice wine vinegar, honey or maple syrup to your marinade.
· Use bamboo skewers rather than placing your tofu right on the grill.
· Grill over a pre-heated grill for 6-7 minutes on each side, brushing occasionally with extra marinade.

Sweet & Spicy BBQ Tofu

This recipe for Sweet and Spicy Barbecue Tofu has a bit of sugar and orange juice for sweetness, but gets a spicy kick from chili powder and red pepper. Tofu is always a healthy, low-fat and easy to grill item to bring along to a barbecue, and this easy vegetarian and vegan recipe is sure to be a hit!
Ingredients:
· 1 pound extra firm tofu, well pressed and sliced into 3/4 inch rectangles
· 3/4 cup barbeque sauce
· 3/4 cup brown sugar
· 1 tsp chili powder
· 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
· 3/4 cup orange juice concentrate
· salt and pepper to taste
Preparation:
Whisk together the barbecue sauce, sugar, chili powder, pepper and orange juice over medium low heat until well combined, about 3 minutes.
Place the barbecue sauce mixture in a wide flat dish, and place the tofu in the sauce, coating both sides well. Allow to marinate for at least two hours.
Grill for 4 or 5 minutes on each side, brushing with additional sauce.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper just before serving.

BBQ Tofu Cubes (Vegan)

If you don't have a lot of time (or money!) this recipe is great. Oh, yeah and it's yummy!! 38 Minutes to Prepare.
Ingredients
Tofu, firm, 1 block
1 cup of vegan Barbecue sauce
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons of lite sodium soy sauce
1 tablespoon of hot sauce (I usually add more!)
2 tablespoons of granulated sugar1-2 tablespoons of olive oil

Directions
Dice tofu into cubes about the size of small cubes. Heat oil in frying pan and add tofu. Saute on medium until the tofu starts to turn a light golden color.Meanwhile, combine the rest of the ingredients. Stir this sauce and add it to the tofu.Continue to cook on medium until the sauce has thickened.This will make 2 adult servings,(4 side dish servings). Serves: 2 to 4
